SHORT-TERM VISITOR ARRIVALS TO AUSTRALIA
- Trend estimates: Short-term visitor arrivals during May 2013 (524,000 movements) decreased 0.1% compared with April 2013 (524,700 movements). This followed monthly decreases of 0.1% in both March 2013 and April 2013. The current trend estimate for arrivals is 3.7% higher than in May 2012.
- Seasonally adjusted estimates: During May 2013, short-term visitor arrivals (524,200 movements) recorded an increase of 0.4% compared with April 2013 (522,400 movements). This followed a monthly increase of 2.1% in March 2013 and a monthly decrease of 1.7% in April 2013.
- Original estimates: There were 412,900 short-term visitor arrivals to Australia in May 2013.
SHORT-TERM RESIDENT DEPARTURES FROM AUSTRALIA
- Trend estimates: Short-term resident departures during May 2013 (720,200 movements) increased 0.8% compared with April 2013 (714,700 movements). This follows monthly increases of 0.9% in March 2013 and 1.0% in April 2013. The current trend estimate for departures is 5.8% higher than in May 2012.
- Seasonally adjusted estimates: During May 2013, short-term resident departures (728,800 movements) increased 1.7% compared with April 2013 (716,700 movements). This followed a monthly increase of 3.2% in March 2013 and a monthly increase of 0.7% in April 2013.
- Original estimates: There were 711,100 short-term resident departures from Australia during May 2013.

REBUILD OF THE OVERSEAS ARRIVALS AND DEPARTURES SYSTEM
The ABS is currently undertaking a rebuild of the Overseas Arrivals and Departures (OAD) system, with a focus on improving the quality of OAD data through an enhanced processing methodology. The new methodology will incorporate considerably more robust imputations for missing traveller data. Revised OAD data will be released in Overseas Arrivals and Departures - Australia, January 2014 (cat. no. 3401.0), scheduled for release on 11 March 2014.
